There are different types of schools in Zaanstad. For your children and for yourself.
Is your child between 2,5 and 5 years old? Then your child can go to school.
Is your child between 5 and 18 years old? Then your child has to go to school.
Primary education
My child is between 2,5 and 5 years old. My child goes to preschool. That's 16 hours a week.
My child is 5 years or older. My child goes to the Kernschool first. Then to primary school.
My child is older than 12 years old. My child first goes to the International Transition Class (ISK). My child learns the Dutch language there. And other subjects, like math and geography. After that, my child goes to secondary school.
Secondary and higher education
Vocational education. After the vocational education, my child can start working.
VMBO (Intermediate Preparatory Vocational Education). After VMBO, my child can go to MBO (Intermediate Vocational Education) or HAVO .
Havo. After havo my child can go to higher professional education.
Vwo. After pre-university education, my child can go to university.
